In addition to actively pursuing national issues and projects of relevance to its members (such as workplace relations), R&CA is committed to ensuring that the industry is recognised as one of excellence, professionalism, profitability and sustainability within its broader social and economic contribution.  This includes promoting and advocating the value of the restaurant experience to the public.

Industry prepares for international campaign 'Restaurant Australia'


Restaurant & Catering Australia (R&CA) is soon to launch a series of Doing Business Better seminars that encourage industry to get up to speed with social media and prepare for the next biggest global tourism campaign ‘Restaurant Australia’.

As a result of the association advocating on behalf of its members for a fresh focus on Australian tourism, Tourism Australia is ramping up the promotion of Australia's food and wine experiences in a new approach to its international marketing.

R&CA stands by removing paid parental leave red tape

Restaurant & Catering Australia (R&CA) is irate that the very sensible proposed change to the administration of the paid parental leave scheme has been blocked again.

The Abbott Government proposal to relieve all businesses of the compulsory ‘pay-clerk’ burden from the paid parental scheme is what business needs.

Dan Hong awarded Young Achiever of the Year

The 2013 Lifestyle Achievers celebrated their success at a formal dinner held at Queens Terrace Café in Parliament House, Canberra on Tuesday 4 March.

R&CA Welcomes support to reduce penalty rates


Restaurant & Catering Australia (R&CA) has welcomed Queensland Premier Campbell Newman’s statement in support of penalty rate reform.
 
Speaking in Far North Queensland, the Premier announced that operators are finding it uneconomical to open on public holidays due to penalty rates, which is impacting on the state’s tourism.
 
Mr Newman stated at the Mission Beach Information Centre that consumers are feeling the brunt of closures and it’s up to the Federal Government to act with a review of penalty rates.

Review of 457 Visa Program welcomed by hospitality sector


The announcement that the 457 visa program will be reviewed is the first step to addressing labour shortages gripping the tourism and hospitality sector, according to peak industry association Restaurant & Catering Australia (R&CA).

The industry shares its love of food with Valentines

The restaurant & catering industry is preparing for a staggering 1,250,000 Australians to dine their loved ones today.

Restaurant & Catering Australia (R&CA) CEO John Hart says that according to Dimmi, Australia’s leading online restaurant booking website, about five percent of the Australian population will be enjoying meals in restaurants on this Valentine’s Day – which is a great relief for the industry.

Restaurant & cafe dining continues to rise


The restaurant, café and catering industry has recorded significant growth in turnover according to recent data released by the Australian Bureau of Statistics (ABS).

The ABS Retail Turnover data shows a 10.6 percent growth in restaurant, café and catering service turnover from November 2012 to November 2013.
