In addition to actively pursuing national issues and projects of relevance to its members (such as workplace relations), R&CA is committed to ensuring that the industry is recognised as one of excellence, professionalism, profitability and sustainability within its broader social and economic contribution.  This includes promoting and advocating the value of the restaurant experience to the public.

In order to achieve these goals, R&CA proactively campaigns and lobbies all levels of Government to ensure that the views of our members are heard in the public domain.

United Voice Restaurant Award Penalty Rates Appeal Rejected

Restaurant & Catering Australia (R&CA), the peak national organisation representing the interests of Australia’s 35,000 restaurateurs, caterers and cafe operators, is pleased the Federal Court has rejected the United Voice’s appeal under the Restaurant Industry Award.

Restaurant & Catering Australia (R&CA) CEO John Hart says the decision will provide labour cost relief with more hospitality businesses able to remain open or re-open on a Sunday.

“This is a win for operators, staff and consumers with restaurants and cafes now inclined to open their doors on a Sunday,” Mr Hart said.

S-NSW Awards for Excellence Winners are Grinners

The Savour AustraliaTM Restaurant & Catering HOSTPLUS Awards for Excellence visited Wollongong in Southern New South Wales on Monday 25 August to announce the best local restaurateurs, caterers and cafe operators.

Overlooking the Pacific Ocean, guests mingled over drinks and canapes at the City Beach Function Centre, before the ceremony kicked off about 7pm.



The major awards were picked up by:

•    Shimmer Restaurant and Bar in Gerrigong won the Consumer Vote Award;
•    City Beach Function Centre in Wollongong took home the Caterer of the Year;
•    Eschalot Restaurant in Berrima was named Restaurant of the Year.

Wages Top Expense in Restaurant Industry


Wages and staff on-costs including payroll tax and training have reached unsustainable level that account for 45.3 percent of business expenses, according to Restaurant & Catering Australia’s (R&CA) 2014 Industry Benchmarking Report. The report, which was released today, monitors key trends in business costs, profitability, and labour and skills shortages.

R&CA CEO John Hart says the report is a stark reminder of how tough is it to do business in the tourism and hospitality industry.

WA Winners Under the Awards for Excellence Spotlight

The WA Savour AustraliaTM Restaurant & Catering HOSTPLUS Awards for Excellence kicked off in Perth at 6:30pm on Monday 4 August.

Almost 150 caterers and restaurant and cafe operators across the state were judged over more than 40 categories for the ceremony held at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre.

The major award winners that took home a plate include:

•    Cosmic Cocktails & Catering and Chocolate Attraction in Wangara took home the Consumer Vote Award;
•    Beaumonde Catering in Bassendean won the Caterer of the Year;
•    Satsuki in Subiaco was awarded the Restaurant of the Year;
•    Warwick Lavis won the Lifetime Achiever.

Awards for Excellence Puts Victoria on Your Table


Reputable for being the most objective awards systems in the world – the Victorian Savour AustraliaTM Restaurant & Catering HOSTPLUS Awards for Excellence kicked off in Melbourne at 6:30pm on Monday 28 July.

More than 150 caterers and restaurant and cafe operators across the state were judged over 45 categories for the ceremony held at Peninsula in the Docklands.

The major award winners that took home a plate include:

•    SkyHigh Mount Dandenong in Mount Dandenong took home the Consumer Vote Award;
•    Zinc at Federation Square in Melbourne won the Caterer of the Year;
•    Paringa Estate Restaurant – Paringa Estate in Red Hill South was named Restaurant of the Year - Regional;
•    Ezard in Melbourne was awarded Restaurant of the Year – Metropolitan;
•    Frank Van Haandel won the Lifetime Achiever.

N-NSW Winners Under the Awards for Excellence Spotlight

Almost 120 local caterers and restaurant and cafe operators in Northern NSW have vied for a title across 38 award categories in the N-NSW Savour AustraliaTM Restaurant & Catering HOSTPLUS Awards for Excellence 2014 series.

Last night’s awards, which kicked off at 6:30pm at Wests New Lambton, saw the below major award winners take home a plate:

•    Macauley’s Restaurant in Coffs Harbour won the Consumer Vote Award;
•    Bonville Golf Resort in Bonville took home the Caterer of the Year;
•    Esca Bimbadgen Restaurant – Esca Bimbadgen Winery in Pokolbin was named the Restaurant of the Year.

Awards for Excellence showcase Canberra's finest in hospitality


Reputable for being the most objective awards systems in the world – the Savour AustraliaTM Restaurant & Catering HOSTPLUS Awards for Excellence 2014 series kicked off at 6:30pm in Canberra on Monday 23 June.

Almost 70 local caterers and restaurant and café operators were judged across 28 categories for the ceremony held at Hotel Realm in Barton.

The major award winners that took home a plate included:

•    Ricardo’s Café in Macquarie won the Consumer Vote Award;
•    Pulp Kitchen in Ainslie took out the Restaurant of the Year;
•    Kitchen Witchery Catering in Fyshwick was named Caterer of the Year.

Restaurant industry invites the world to dinner

Restaurant & Catering Australia (R&CA), the peak national organisation representing the interests of restaurateurs, caterers and cafe owners, is celebrating the launch of the next evolution of the ‘There’s nothing like Australia’ campaign.

As a result of the association advocating on behalf of its members for a fresh focus on Australian tourism, Tourism Australia has ramped up the promotion of Australia's food and wine experiences in a new approach to its international marketing.

Launched at Sydney’s award-winning Quay Restaurant, R&CA CEO John Hart is excited the new $10 million campaign is based on the idea of Australia being the world’s greatest restaurant, 'Restaurant Australia'.
