The winners of the 2012 Savour Australia™ Restaurant & Catering HOSTPLUS Awards for Excellence – Victoria have been announced!

Iconic Melbourne restaurant Jacques Reymond in Prahran and has been named Metropolitan Victoria’s top place to dine in the 2012 Savour Australia™ Restaurant & Catering HOSTPLUS Awards for Excellence – Victoria for the second year.

More than 170 restaurants and caterers whose businesses are located across the state of Victoria were recognised at the ceremony (August 13) at Atlantic [V], Melbourne to acknowledge excellence in food and service.

Joining Jacques Reymond in the two year’s running winners’ circle was Eleonore’s at Yering who were awarded the Restaurant of the Year – Regional trophy, and Atlantic Group [V] at Docklands who were named Victoria’s Caterer of the Year for the second consecutive year.

Jacques Reymond, Eleonore’s and Atlantic Group [V] will now compete with venues from across Australia in the National finals in Brisbane on October 29 this year, to be held at Brisbane Convention & Exhibition Centre.

Restaurant & Catering CEO John Hart commented that, “The Awards for Excellence represent an important moment as the industry pauses to honour these outstanding venues that were reviewed on the whole dining experience rather than a single dimension. Victoria is home to some of the country’s tourism and dining treasures, with Melbourne fondly referred to as Australia’s foodie capital. The restaurants and caterers in this state always reflect the rich use of regional produce making it quite unique in comparison to other states.”

Other major Award winners included Crown Melbourne who were awarded the George Mure Memorial Professional Development Award; Ambrosia Cafe – Bar- Foodstore, Berwick who won the Savour Australia Consumer Vote Award, and Gail Donovan of Donovans, ST KILDA was awarded the prestigious Lifetime Achiever Award.

The Savour Australia™ Restaurant & Catering HOSTPLUS Awards for Excellence are the most dependable and authoritative guide to Australia’s best restaurant and caterers. There are close to 50 different restaurant and catering categories where members have identified their cuisine or event type, so you can be judged in the most appropriate category. The unique quality of the awards program is the uniformity of the judging program on a national basis enabling the Association to conduct a competitive and unbiased awards program.

The Awards program recognises the industry’s commitment to service and quality. Other benefits include: 

  • Opportunity to receive publicity through the Association during the Awards program maximising media exposure
  • Network with other key businesses in your industry

  • You have an opportunity to receive regional, state and national recognition for business excellence

Plus, following the announcement of national winners in October, businesses that enter are advised of their Savour Australia™ Plate Rating (up to 5 plates), which is a one to five icon out of a possible five, mathematically derived from the scores received by businesses judges in the Savour Australia™ Restaurant & Catering HOSTPLUS Awards for Excellence (at the regional and state level).

From December each year and for businesses with 2 ½ plates or above, these ratings are published on restaurant.org.au and businesses will receive a window decal to help them promote their plate rating.
