Restaurant & Catering Australia has, with funding support from Ausindustry, has developed a TECHNOLOGY Roadmap for the restaurant and catering industry. This Roadmap has considered, through consultations throughout Australia, the needs of restaurateurs and caterers and has arrived at eleven recommendations as to the way forward to achieve greater take up of technology.

The basic premise of the study was that the introduction of technology into restaurateurs and catering businesses had been supply rather than demand driven (that is the industry got what technology suppliers wanted to provide rather than what industry wanted). This exercise will hopefully start to reverse this trend.

A copy of the full report can be downloaded below.

The roadmap has six core objectives. They are :
. Facilitate change in the attitude of restaurateurs toward technology
. Provide owners and employees of restaurant and catering businesses with enhanced competency in the use of technology
. Enhance the return that restaurateurs and caterers receive from their internet presence
. Develop and/or facilitate the development of software product that is not available to the industry in a viable form
. Enhance the integration of existing systems
. Increase access of restaurateurs to point of sale systems

One of the tasks that flow from these recommendations is this page itself. This page provides information on the use of technology in restaurants and examples of your colleagues that have had success in this endeavor.

There is also the opportunity below for you to tell us about your experiences. Please fill out the form below with a short message if you have a good news story to tell.

If you would like to be involved in any of the initiatives detailed on this page or have a comment or question, please call the Association on 1300 722 878 (RCAUST) or email on
